Faculty and Graduate Student Presentations

Mathematics & Statistics Seminar

Friday, December 1st - 3:30pm -4:30pm in HSH 143

SPEAKER: BEN GODON
THE CHROMATIC POLYNOMIALS OF
GRAPHS
ABSTRACT: An introduction to graph coloring and
chromatic polynomials, and their construction on
simple graphs.

SPEAKER: WILL SUTHERLAND
AN INTRODUCTION TO UNEQUAL
PROBABILITY SAMPLING AND
PROBABILITY PROPORTIONAL TO SIZE
SAMPLING
ABSTRACT: As an undergraduate mathematics
student, when you are introduced to Sampling
Theory it’s with the requirement that each unit
has an equal probability of being selected in the
sample. What if that is not always the best
approach? This presentation will introduce the
concept of Unequal Probability Sampling as well as
a class of methods to implement such sampling
designs, Probability Proportional to Size Sampling.
