Citing References and Making a Bibliography
Bibliography
Open the Bibliography template in the master document.
Before each item in the bibliography entry you must add a blue box called a Bibliography Item
. This allows you to cite the entry in the main body of your document. To add a Bibliography item, go to the Item tag box and scroll up using the arrow.
The Bibliography Item requires a key. This is a code so you can cite a reference in your paper without having to write the information of the bibliography entry more than once. Every entry requires a different key. To make each key easy to remember the first few letters of the author's last name and the year the reference was published makes a good key.
Using the Tag toolbar on the bottom of your Scientific Word worksheet, you can enter the bibliographic entries in the proper format. (Note: if you have to put anything in quotes, the left quote is at the top left of your keyboard. Press it twice for double quotes.)
Make sure the TeX Field box is after the first entry in the bibliography. It should have the following command in it when you double click:
Citing
If you would like to cite a reference from your bibliography:
1. Place the cursor after the piece you would like to reference
2. Go to the Field toolbar and press the Citation button
3. Enter the key for the corresponding entry in the bibliography
4. Press OK
This will put a bracketed number in your document that corresponds to the entry on the bibliography.
