Dr. Hugh Chipman receives SSC's 2024 Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award honours a person who has contributed substantially and over a period of several years to the operation or welfare of the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC).

The 2024 recipient is Dr. Hugh Chipman. He was recently honoured in the SSC annual meeting banquet in St. John's, NL.

His citation from the SSC reads: "For significant contributions and services to the SSC in various roles including the Presidential offices of SSC and numerous SSC committees; for exceptional service as SSC Electronic Services Manager, especially during periods of crisis; for outreach efforts on behalf of the statistical sciences; and for dedicated services for the profession over three decades.

Our department has a long history of engagement and service with the SSC and the Canadian statistical community:  hosting 2 SSC annual meetings (1993, 2011), service on the SSC Board and leadership of SSC sections.  Former faculty member Dr. Paul Cabilio received the Distinguished Service Award in 2010.
